Solutions for Incontinence
It is important for you to know that you are not alone, women of all ages may find themselves dealing with incontinence. In fact, incontinence affects 20 - 30% of younger women, 30 - 40% of middle age women, and 40 - 50% of older women. Contrary to what you may believe, incontinence is not a normal result of childbirth or a natural part of aging. In many cases incontinence can be cured, and it can usually be managed.

There are several types of incontinence and proper diagnosis is critical to successfully treating the condition. The more common forms are:

- Stress incontinence: Unintentional leakage of urine, typically occurring with cough, sneeze, or strenuous activity.

- Urge incontinence: A strong, uncontrollable urge to empty the bladder, followed by an unintentional leakage of urine.

There are a variety of treatment options including physical therapy, biofeedback, medication, and surgery. Dr. McKinney will work closely with you to determine the care plan that is best suited for you and your lifestyle. Treatment for Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Pelvic organ prolapse is a medical condition in which the uterus or bladder, most commonly, have slipped or fallen. This can occur when the ligaments that hold the organs to the pelvic wall become too weak to hold them in place. Prolapse is a common condition and there are several available and effective treatments. Physical therapy, pessaries, and surgery are viable options, and Dr. McKinney will partner with you to develop a customized care plan that will improve your health and quality of life.

The Women's Health Center also provides personal and specialized care for a variety of other conditions, including pelvic floor tension myalgia, recurrent urinary tract infections, interstitial cystitis, and chronic pelvic pain.
